Subject: SPECIAL GLOBAL — SNAKE FOUND, BUILDING REOPENS
RATTLESNAKE FOUND, BUILDING REOPENED

The Science Building has been reopened following the positive identification of a rattlesnake found at Dobbs Park as the one missing from the ISU facility.

The rattlesnake was discovered to be missing earlier today, and the Science Building was evacuated as a precautionary measure. The snake was discovered on Thursday at Dobbs Park where it had been left inside a box. After reports of the missing snake at ISU, officials were able to positively identify the snake found at Dobbs Park as the missing reptile.

Faculty, staff and students are now able to reenter the Science Building.

Someone got the muthafuckin snake back in the muthafuckin science building.

I took a lesson on early Saturday afternoon prior to my birthday cookout as to why wearing shorts on a motorcycle is a bad idea (...aside from the possibility of laying the bike down and exchanging legs for roadkill). I prefer to ride on generally infrequented country highways and paved backroads due to their relaxing nature and a broken speedometer, so thankfully I didn't have to contend with any traffic when a large insect was scooped into my shorts and then stung, bit, or stabbed with a hot poker the back of my leg TWICE. Holy hell IT HURT, and I grabbed at the back of my shorts with my left hand and held a wad of cloth and insect in my fist so as to seperate it from the opportunity to gnaw or sting its way up my leg to my ass. I must have looked completely mad as I stood up while at a trot of about 50mph and pinched the pissed-off creature with the inside of my shorts while trying to slow down and enter a set of s-curves. I squeezed it until I felt it crunch and then shook it out of the back of my shorts without getting a glimpse of it. It was all over within ten seconds, but it seemed like too long had passed before I could get my left hand back on the handlebar and pull the clutch in to downshift. That shit was for the birds...speaking of birds...another reason to stop wearing shorts on the motorcycle.

During the summer-break the creators of Lost have been running a game of sorts that offers bits of the Hanso film to give clues to the show's backstory. I gave this game a shot upon its inception, but got bored and forgot about it. Someone has pieced together all the film clips here, and it's really interesting...a must-see for Lost-ites.

crikey.

Bran and I took a mini-vacation to St. Louis over the weekend to catch a Cardinals game and go to Six Flags. The game was on Friday night, and we sat in the right-centerfield bleachers eight rows back from the outfield wall. It was a good game...Jeff Suppan pitched seven solid innings and St. Louis outscored the Cubs 2 to 0. Jason Isringhausen went into the game for St. Louis in the 9th inning (relieving Flores) and got booed by the whole house. I felt bad for him, but he pitched horribly during the entire month of August. (Last week while the Cardinals played the Mets and lead 7 to 6 in the 9th inning, I remarked to my friend Matt, "that dumbass is going to throw him something he can hit, just watch." right before Isringhausen threw his first pitch to Carlos Beltran straight down the pipe and it was knocked out of the park for a two run walk-off. That kind of pitching is why St. Louis won't go the distance this year. Now I shall digress.) We walked around by the Arch and went to the museum before walking to Laclede's Landing where we ate at the Old Spaghetti Factory. I'll never go back by choice...the spaghetti tasted like something similar to what can be found in a grade-school cafeteria, and I sat closer to the two strangers on either side of me than I did my wife...due to bad table arrangement. It sucked.

You know what the antithesis of suck is? An amusement park with no lines to get on the rides. The morning was rainy, and with school in session the crowd was pretty sparse. The Batman ride is my favorite coaster of any amusement park I've been to...we rode it several times and it was just as awesome every time. It feels like you're flying when you ride in the front car...definitely the highlight of the park.

Another thing to add to the list of things that suck that I hope to never repeat: poking yourself in the eye with a guitar string. I was restringing my 12-string and managed to scratch my eye with the end of a G as it flipped around while I was cranking the tuner. It managed to go right past my glasses and into my eye. It watered for about ten minutes, and I could see a small scratch on the surface, but my vision was unaffected and even the scratch has quickly disappeared. For at least the initial ten to fifteen seconds I was certain that I had put my eye out.

Seagull 12-string.

For the Lost-ites in the crowd, the creators of the show have set upon us another oddity... A site called ApolloCandy.com has been launched detailing a candy bar (with references to the Hanso Foundation), and (now to the point of my post) they're giving them away free at specific locations in the United States and the U.K. (bugger off and get one!) in the next couple of weeks. Click on ze link and click on ze buttons labelled "U.S. Distribution" or "U.K. Distribution"...these will tell you where to find them if you happen to be in one of the fashionable cities by fate or blind luck.

Also, if you've got time to kill then check out The Show with zeFrank. This guy has a daily video blog that is truly wortwhile. JibbyLee pointed me to this guy last night and I went through his entries for two hours.

I've considered selling my Seagull 12-string spruce-top acoustic guitar (model SM-12). It's a great guitar that I neglect to play. If you're interested then drop a line and we'll talk about the whole you give me money and I give you guitar thing. I was sure that I wanted to sell it until I cleaned it up and took photos for the advert, and then I started appreciating it again. Maybe I'll just restring it (which it mos'definitely needs) and sit on it for a while.

I've finished recording an instrumental (since I couldn't sing decently to save my life) that I've been working on sporadically for a few months. I'm not sure how to generally describe it, but it's unlike anything that I listen to. I've got some other stuff in the works...some heavy and some mellow. I like playing a lot of different styles of music so it's hard to follow one direction, not like any of it will ever wander beyond the ears of friends and family anyhow.

Voice your concern for Net Neutrality. This obviously has an impact on anyone reading this.

A Note to Google Users on Net Neutrality:

The Internet as we know it is facing a serious threat. There's a debate heating up in Washington, DC on something called "net neutrality" – and it's a debate that's so important Google is asking you to get involved. We're asking you to take action to protect Internet freedom.

In the next few days, the House of Representatives is going to vote on a bill that would fundamentally alter the Internet. That bill, and one that may come up for a key vote in the Senate in the next few weeks, would give the big phone and cable companies the power to pick and choose what you will be able to see and do on the Internet.

Today the Internet is an information highway where anybody – no matter how large or small, how traditional or unconventional – has equal access. But the phone and cable monopolies, who control almost all Internet access, want the power to choose who gets access to high-speed lanes and whose content gets seen first and fastest. They want to build a two-tiered system and block the on-ramps for those who can't pay.

Creativity, innovation and a free and open marketplace are all at stake in this fight. Please call your representative (202-224-3121) and let your voice be heard.

Thanks for your time, your concern and your support.

And I thought this song was pretty cool before.

My brother and I bought our own boat/trailer/outboard a few months ago and we finally had the opportunity to go fishing together on Friday. Now I've got the fever.

The plastic tips at the end of shoelaces are called aglets. Their true purpose is sinister.

What's it gonna be?(<-nsfw!)

I've been meaning to post a picture of my Dean Hardtail for a while. I got it a couple of months ago along with a Line6 PodXT. I can't say enough about the quality that Dean delivers for the money. I originally planned on buying a Schecter Hellraiser or possibly a Jackson, but the Dean grabbed me.

My boss of ten years is retiring today a month early due to heart problems and required surgeries. He's been one hell of a guy to work for. It feels like the end of an era.

Long time, no update.

I had my wisdom teeth pulled a week ago so I've been on a liquid diet complimented by vicodin, ibuprofin, and a diluted hydrogen peroxide rinse. I just gotta say that it really fucking sucks. The dentist's assistant really messed my lip up by repeatedly seesawing the saliva/blood vacuum on it when it was dry and numb. I've got gaping blisters that have made me feel like a leper. Mouth wounds are miserable, but at least I can tell they're healing.

My cats have been fighting one another and behaving like the demonically possessed over the past week. It started once the weather got nicer and I opened the windows of the house to let fresh air in, so I'm guessing that they've caught the scent of another cat (or cats) in heat. The neighborhood is rampant with strays. I don't know how to (humanely) dispel the neighborhood cats or my cats' ill behavior. A water spray-bottle scatters them and pisses them off right nicely when they're in the midst of a growling and hissing standoff.

I've started some projects around the yard and slated up some to be done in the future. Yardwork and landscaping is fun and exciting. I bought a Dean Hardtail and Line 6 PodXT, and have been writing and recording a song. I don't know who or what to compare its sound to, but it's not like anything I listen to. I haven't worked on it for a few weeks, but I mean to get back to it soon. Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion has stolen my soul. Is it me, or does the melody of one of the main music pieces sound like Call on Me? I get this song stuck in my head every time I play the game.

I caught up with Lost today finally after letting four episodes idle on the tivo for a month. In the wake of Battlestar Galactica's season finale I haven't spent much time with the idiot box.

Silent Hill, in a nutshell, blows Elvis. What the movie exulted with impressive visuals was lost by the poorly written story and jarring continuity. Sean Bean looked conspicuously out of place as he appeared to be the only person on the set with any notable acting ability...as the lead females in the movie couldn't salvage the script or direction for their parts. Then again...who could? The story went from completely meandering to a really bad kind of concise.
