I am a groomsman in my friend Scott's wedding next weekend, so naturally this weekend we are having his bachelor party. The film "Very Bad Things" comes to mind. We talked about the possiblities of going to a casino or LaClede's Landing in St. Louis. It should be really fun.

Cost of the wedding: $10,000
I'd like to say it again. $10,000. That is $10,000. Of course that includes the cost of the honeymoon too, but $10,000!?!??!!?!?!?! Perhaps my personal disregard of tradition and my bias against church weddings are influencing my opinion, but I think spending $10,000 on a wedding is an incoherent delusion of grandeur...who needs it?!?!?!?! If I had a big church wedding it would be...um...strange. The tension in the air between my attending family would be so thick you could see it on your breath, and I have friends from such vast walks of life that none of them would have anything in common with eachother. As I've stated before, most occasions worthy of celebration are very low scale in my family...I may be right, I may be crazy...

The cost of weddings

Weddings are entirely unrealistic. Do you know how much kick-ass computer & music gear I could get for $10,000?? My recording studio would be SET! Not to mention paying off my student loans and any other accrued depts I may have (I think I owe 13,000 or so total...)

I say, have a little 'married by a Justice of the Peace' wedding in your living room with like 5-10 ppl there, then rent a hall, get a DJ & a liquor license, and throw a HUGE party. A hell of a lot cheaper, and much more fun.

I guess it's all about priorities though. Some people want that ceremony, they need that ceremony. Some people parents want it. i just don't happen to be one of them. Besides 3/4 of my family isn't invited to my wedding anyhow. It's a logistical nightmare. ;)

No Weddings For Me (should wedding be plural?)

I agree - $10,000 could buy me a fantastic computer system - would I be in heaven or what? My debts would be eliminated. It really boggles my mind to spend that much or anything close to that amount on a wedding. Traditional girl I am not. Something odd and unusual would be ideal for me. Like getting married in a treehouse (I know of one at a campground in Texas) or through the Elvis Chappel in Las Vegas or doing something at home and making it a theme wedding (saw a stunning silk wedding kimona that would be fantastic to get married in and still wear later). I can't stand boring and I wouldn't want a traditional boring wedding ceremony - ick! Thank goodness David and I agree on that . . .

damn...
well, my wedding costed $31. we were married in a courthouse in Pulaski TN. in 1993.
noone was there except the lady who married us. it was nice :)
we had dinner at McDonalds and had the Jurrasic park meals.
the first thing we bought was a box of band-aids for the blister on my foot from my new shoes that costed more than my dress ( dress:$5. shoes:$20)
we spent our honeymoon sleeping cuz we were so tired ..hehe

i am still married 7 years later and still as happy as if we would have spent $10,000. :)
