From what I understand, Boll gets most of his actors at the last minute when he finds someone somewhat notable with a small break in their schedule. It saves him a lot of money and it gets him some name recognition on his movie. I know this from watching the Director's Commentary on Bloodrayne. That's an amazing experience as well if you like mild distractions while working.
