as it happens...
Aug. 6th, 2008 01:21 pmFirst off, I know this isn't all that profound but cancer just fucking sucks. Glen died sometime during the night on Sunday after being diagnosed only a month ago. After my father-in-law's death a few years ago Glen really proved himself to be a dependable friend of the family and has helped my mother-in-law out with the maintenance and upkeep of her house...as well as just about anything else that she couldn't handle by herself. He and Lexene weren't romantically involved in any manner, but he was still a part of the family. I really liked the guy, and I'm glad we had the chance to stop and see him in the hospital when he was doing (relatively) well. His funeral is tomorrow.
We'll have two more funerals to attend soon as well. Bran's aunt has terminal cancer and likely won't live much longer, as well as my aunt on my step-mother's side of the family.

Piper won a the redneck beauty contest. Don't look at me...it wasn't *my* idea.

After we fell asleep last night a bad thunderstorm rolled through and awoke us with crashing lightning and loud thunder as the power went out. When it returned, Bran was reaching over to reset her alarm clock when sparks began erupting from the electrical outlet near the bed, leaving a visible mark on her arm, the wall, the surround sound speaker, and that piece of paper (those are burns). I don't know if it was lightning, a power surge, or faulty wiring that went kaput when the power fluctuated, but it scared the hell out of us.
I thought my karma was pretty solid after the weekend. I got a call on Friday night informing me that my brother would be coming by on Saturday morning to pick my hungover ass up to help him move EVERYTHING HE OWNS from his girlfriends house back to his house. After he had just paid professional movers to move him in there four days prior. Saturday was not fun. Sunday I mowed two yards out of the kindness of my Grinch-like heart...three counting my own.

Jaysus, I'm glad your house didn't burn down.
