OOOs and AHHHHs all around! I like that you have a link to the Charlie Brown Christmas but then have Ulver as the music you're listening to. My kinda guy!
BTW, I am trying to buy a Star Wars box set for my bother in law for Christmas and I am at my wits end on what version I should buy. I want to buy something that is not the remake, contains Star Wars, Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi and is also around the $50 mark or lower...any suggestions? Links to sites like Amazon or Deep Discount would be appreciated. I don't know anything about Star Wars so I am clueless. Thanks man!
I finally scored Perdition City on cd again after loaning it to someone two years ago and never seeing it again, but I've been listening to the Charlie Brown Christmas quite a bit too since getting it from another lj'er.
Strangely enough, with all the super limited special extra bonus edition box sets of the Star Wars films, they've not released a box set of the "theatrical" (as close to theatrical as you can legally get on dvd) release of the original trilogy on dvd. You have to either buy the "theatrical" releases seperately like this: A New Hope - $17.99 The Empire Strikes Back - $17.99 Return of the Jedi - $17.99 or in a super limited edition collector's tin for $100.00 like this: Super limited overpriced collector's tin edition. The actual movie home releases have been a marketing clusterfuck for the last decade.
That Martyr album is really decent...I've gotta get it on my home pc instead of this one (work) that has tin-can cheapo pc speakers.
I meant to type one more sentence or so but I hit "post comment instead". I'm trying to think of who the vocalist and music remind me of...it's like Wrathchild America/Souls at Zero on steroids and with more modernized production.
Holy shit! You dropped Wrathchild America's name! I can see that. I think the think I like about the record is that it takes me back to when there were a lot of good tech thrash bands but Martyr ups the production. My roommate walked in on me playing it one day and said, "Is this a new Tourniquet record?" Which cracked me up but I can understand why he was confused.
You're welcome. I loved the first two Tourniquet albums but was pretty disappointed with Vanishing Lessons...I haven't heard any of their newer stuff. I'm going to have to scavenge for some Wrathchild America and Souls at Zero albums in the digital. I think a friend of mine may have them on cd.
Yeah, not a fan of anything Tourniquet has done since those first two either. Not that you would know this but, Gary Lenaire, the guitarist of Tourniquet on those first two records, has written a book that looked interesting. I'm not sure if he is an athiest now or not but the book is called "An Infidel Manifesto" and comes out next week. He def has departed from his old faith though I am not sure where he has landed. If you want to check it out you can on his site: http://www.garylenaire.org
That's pretty interesting. I'd actually like to read that if it's at all worthwhile. Speaking of turnabout 90's christian thrash metal guitarists (that may or may not have been signed on Intense records), I've been waiting for Roger Martinez to release his musical project. Who is next...Michael Bloodgood?
I will be shocked if indeed Roger ever releases anything. I'd love to check it out but I doubt anything will ever happen. I don't know if you remember that band Betrayal from the early 90's, they were a Christian thrash band as well. The main guy behind that band is an outspoken athiest now as well. Oh, Gary is also back in a band with Victor and Eric, the bass player and guitarist from "Pathogenic Ocular Dissonance". They don't have any music up yet but details are here: myspace.com/2050bells I seem to be just a wellspring of Christian metal trivia these last couple days!
