Apr. 25th, 2005 03:27 pmI have pink eye so I had to call in sick to work both last night and tonight, and will have to continue to until it clears up. I called in at the golf course too, much to my boss's disliking. To put it simply though...fuck him. I'm going to put in my two-weeks notice there on any day now for several reasons. Firstly, I bought a house and will be closing with the bank this coming Friday. I'm not going to make the 40 mile commute to Terre Haute twice a day so that I can work the part-time job. The minimal secondary income isn't necessary since Bran is moving in with me and has a decent income to contribute. The second reason I'm quitting the golf course job is because my new boss has the personality of a bovine and the business sensibility of a 3rd grader. He has roundaboutedly accused me of stealing from him twice. In both cases I had to explain why either the money or product (fucking Snickers candy bars, how thou dost tempt me) weren't there since his aforementioned lack of business sensibility could produce neither a fucking clue how to account for them by himself nor any managerial tact for approaching me in an uninsinuating and non-interrogational manner in each incident. He started acting like my buddy for a while, but has recently stopped...most likely due to my conspicuous disinterest. But, "just a couple more weeks" I've been repeatedly telling myself. It's easier to deal with when you cease giving a shit and desist putting forth any extra effort. His assistant just put in his two weeks notice as well, so he is losing the only two people that have experience in running the place. Good luck, fucker.
Life is good. But I have pink eye and I'm bored out of my gourd so I thought I'd fill in a few blanks.
About two weeks prior to the event, I attempted to order tickets for Star Wars Celebration III that took place in Indianapolis last weekend and received a message indicating that online purchasing was closed. I thought this a bad sign but attempted to get in by buying tickets at the door on the day of Saturday. It was immediately sold out, so I suppressed my disappointment and took my mom, Jim, and Bran out to eat at Don Pablo's instead. We thought about going to see the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, and then realized it wasn't out yet so Bran and I gave up on doing anything fun or productive and decided to drive back to Terre Haute. En route she convinced me to go back to the RCA Dome to get tickets for Sunday's Celebration III since they were still available, and then we would drive back the next day to attend. While standing in a mile long line, two guys approached with three extra tickets and I jumped at the opportunity to pay $10 dollars over the cost of each ticket to get in. Approximately 30,000 people were in Indianapolis from all over the world in attendance for all things Star Wars, and luckily for me they happened to have it right next door. I think my pictures would be just as interesting as any narrative of what took place...to anyone who gives a rat's ass.

Date: 2005-04-26 06:48 pm (UTC)Star Wars isn't everyone's cup of tea, but it was a huge part of my childhood imagination that I've never been able to shake. I don't hate.
My boss doesn't bother me much since I know I'm quitting. I'm not looking for anything better...I've still got my full-time job at the university and I'm not looking to pick up another secondary/part-time job. Thanks though!
What an incredible smell you've discovered...
Date: 2005-04-26 01:41 pm (UTC)Plus I just bought a t-shirt that says "Chewie is my co-pilot".
...but my brother's friend Mike Hunter is the man with the plan:
He called my brother to tell him that he is going to the world premiere in London on May 16th. It will open in a theater called the Empire Theatre and it holds 1,300 people. They are showing all 6 movies back to back with the new one being the last one. Mike and his friend had two computers and four phones going trying to get through to buy tickets when they went on sale at 9:00 am yesterday. He got through and they let him buy 4 tickets. Get this - he will be sitting on the 8th row and he will be enjoying the new movie with George Lucas and the Star Wars cast sitting in front of him! Pretty sweet, huh? Apparently all the tickets sold out by 9:02!
Re: What an incredible smell you've discovered...
Date: 2005-04-26 06:54 pm (UTC)That sounds really cool what your brother's friend is doing, but all six movies back to back? Yikes...that's at least 9 hours in the theater. I guess I like my home theater setup too much. It would be awesome sitting that close to George and the cast though, and it would be a really unique experience.
Re: What an incredible smell you've discovered...
Date: 2005-04-26 08:31 pm (UTC)I'm such a rebel.
I got the model and serial numbers off my busted TV.
I called my adjuster to ask if I was supposed to fill out “replacement cost”. She said yes.
I asked her what that meant and she said to look online and find something comparable.
I got on Sony’s website and they don’t make my TV anymore.
Mine was a 27” (27” visible screen, 29” actual screen) Sony Trinitron with picture-in-picture and extra component hookups on the back.
The only ones I could find (tube TVs) that had Trinitron in the name are WEGA TVs and run from 399.00 to 749.99.
So that’s what I put down.
I guess we’ll see.

Date: 2005-04-26 08:41 pm (UTC)NERD ALERT!
Date: 2005-04-27 01:08 am (UTC)Have you heard Despised Icon yet? They are one of the bands I signed, wondered what you thought of them...techy math metal stuff.
Re: NERD ALERT!
Date: 2005-04-27 03:01 am (UTC)I haven't heard them but I'll check them out. I've been listening to the new albums by Dickinson, High on Fire, The Killers (I don't even know why I like this band), Napalm Death, and Immolation.
Re: NERD ALERT!
Date: 2005-04-27 03:04 am (UTC)I think you'll like Despised Icon though they are a little left of center. I like the High on Fire record a lot as well.
BTW - Deicide, Immolation and Despised Icon are touring together in June, not sure if they are going through IN or a place near you. If they are let me know and I'll get you on the list. Deicide is a one trick pony but the other bands would be worth a listen.
