...goes to work at his typical going-to-work time (midnight), spends almost an entire workshift doing typical workshift things, realizes with about an hour and a half left in his shift that it's a national holiday that he has completely forgotten about and everyone else he knows has failed to mention, and drives home laughing at his own stupidity for working a PAID DAY OFF.

I've got keys to all the buildings (which are devoid of people when I start the production week on Sunday nights at midnight). The first signs of life are the janitors who arrive at 4am, and when I noticed that I couldn't see any on my security monitor at about 5:30 that was the first hint that I'm a dumbass.
