Chichen Itza - 10/11/04

Click here for a nicely done site with information on the Mayan city of Chichen Itza. The place is astonishing to say the least.

Hey, I also have a bunch of these from my vacation last month. Unfortunately I still need to get them scanned.

Very nice! :D

My hotel was called the Gran Caribe Real, which oddly looks an awful lot like the one in your photos. It was sort of in the middle of the strip, not bad but not fancy either. The first three days were sort of hindered by Ivan, but afterwards we went to Chichen Itza, did a glass bottom sub tour, and a day of shopping. The last one was probably the more strenuous, and it you did that you'll likely know why.

Will put pictures up as soon as I'm able, though from the looks of it I'm sure it's not anything you haven't seen before. ;)

You didn't go far enough south or deep enough into the corn.

There are *things* in the corn.

thanks for the pics!

hey i've always wanted to go there!

is it true that you have to track through some wooded area before arriving?

and dude, you sooo don't look like prince william.

you look like you could kick his rump.

You should go there sometime. Coba is in a jungle(-ish) setting and the ruins are accessed by walking or bicycling a couple of kilometers on trails. We hiked, zip-lined, and rappelled through a relatively near area where monkeys and crocodiles dwelled.

I also don't think I look like Prince William, but a few people have spontaneously suggested that.

oh yes!

WOW!
Those pictures are breathtaking!
What a great idea for a vacation!
Someday maybe your cleverness will rub off on me. :)
Is cleverness even a word?

So how long were you there?

You should go sometime. It'd would be a great fall or winter vacation. There is so much to do that you could never possibly be bored. We stayed a week.

I'm not that clever...I was invited along by Bran's family. But yes...cleverness is a word.

I got yer cleverness.

Man, I'll definitely have to try and go before I turn 32.
Geez...that was arbitrary.

What happens when you turn 32 anyhow? Does your ability to vacate dissipate? Hmmmmmmmmmmmm?

Nah.
I'll just suffer from a severe downward spiral of never-ending hermitism.
You know..."home body" syndrome.

Eh...
It's too early to be funny.
Although this time I'm almost certain that "hermitism" isn't a word.
So there!

Love it, love it, love it.

I dig Mayan/Aztec/Incan history, info, etc. I'd love to be where you were.

Now...when you say you "hiked, zip-lined, and rappelled through a relatively near area where monkeys and crocodiles dwelled," is that literal? Because...like...damn. I'd want a freakin' escalator.

Also, I didn't realize you were a Cards fan...

I grew up in Mizzou, but I'm a struggling Royals enthusiast. BUT, I do like that former Royals are playing a large part this postseason: Johnny Damon, Carlos Beltran, Jeff Suppan...etc.

Woah.

The Royals have enthusiasts???

George Brett is my hero.

Ashamed and bruised enthusiasts, but enthusiasts nonetheless.

I'm still living off of 1985...a fact, I'm sure, that most Cardinal fans are STILL trying to forget.

That was literal, although we did that by choice instead of necessity. I forgot to mention that we also kayaked. It was a lot of fun...and not all *that* strenuous.
