Jan. 30th, 2002 03:38 pmThe concert was as good as to be expected last night. We caught a pretty heavy rain on the way to Indy that made driving and standing in line to get into the Murat Theater a pisser, but it was a great show. The Murat is a great venue. It's clean. Security was tight at the door but cool on the floor. The crowd was there for the band, so there were no problems at all. The beer was cold. The sound was clear.
A local band called Diecast opened. They were actually pretty decent. They sounded like what Soulfly would sound like if they gave a shit about the music they were playing. Hatebreed followed...I've read a few articles about them before so I thought they might be okay. Both of their guitarists could have been playing the same chord through their entire set and nobody would have known any different. I thought it may have been that their sound was just bad, but I just listened to the free sampler cd and am wondering why they pay two guitarists if that's what they're going for. We sincerely applauded when the vocalist announced that their bass player had just gotten out of prison. The small victories are sometimes the most touching. Slayer opened with Darkness of Christ, played their classic standards with the additions of Bloodline and Payback, and finished with Angel of Death. Dave Lombardo played all the old and new material like he had never left the band. I still prefer Paul Bostaph, but it was cool seeing the original lineup together.
Damon hooked me up with the Death Live in Eindhoven and Live in L.A. dvd's. We are really kicking our own asses over not going to the show at the Emerson Theater at the end of last year before Chuck passed away. The live shows are indicative of his level of musicianship and dedication to the genre. Babble babble.
Billy's ex-girlfriend left a message on my voicemail asking me for help with her computer. Hmmmmm. Delete. She left another voicemail saying Billy was in the hospital, so I tracked down his room number and called him up. He's having chest pains that are affecting his breathing, so they are running every test they can think of. It sounds similar to the pressure I was having in my chest last year that made me decide to quit smoking. I hope it's nothing serious. Hopefully he's out by this weekend, but if he isn't I'll stop in and see him. I want to get together with Matt anyhow, so I'll probably be in town.
As for today, I've done absolutely nothing...as planned. Thursday is mine and Dan's off day for running, and my knee is so sore today that I need it. I got out of bed this morning and limped around the house like a G from the old school crew.
Hey look...MASH is on.

Date: 2002-01-30 02:38 pm (UTC)Normally, people think of shingles as being something on the outside of the body.
But, in 2000, my father was admitted to the hospital for days...he had serious pain when trying to breathe, etc.. They ran all these tests and couldn't find anything. Finally they figured out that he had an internalized version of shingles. It can be very painful.
Thought I'd mention that.
I love Hatebreed's song Mark My Words. Love it.
