Jul. 12th, 2000 12:22 amI had a bizarre dream today that brought my sleep to an unpleasant conclusion. The first part that I can remember had me driving in my truck in a strange neighborhood. I looked at the sky to the left and saw three funnel clouds of brobdingnagian size tearing through the town in my direction. I pulled the truck to the curb, ran to a woman working in a flowerbed, said, "we have to find shelter," and pointed toward the approaching twisters. We ran inside her garage and closed the door as the wind howled and tore around us. It abruptly stopped. We waited a couple of minutes, opened the door, and slowly ventured out. The whole town was in ruins before us. I ran to my truck, jumped in, and began driving while trying to figure out where the hell I was. The sky before me turned into water and began descending. I brought my truck to an abrupt halt and turned around, but before I could speed off in the other direction the water rushed around me. For some reason I jumped out of my truck. The water tossed me around and the waves grew to towering heights as I held my breath and fought to stay on the surface. Suddenly I was tossed straight up out of the water to a height of twenty feet, and was then reimmersed. I struggled to the surface, and just as I got a lungful of air I was again thrown straight upward. I ascended high in the sky, and then abruptly began falling toward an ocean scattered with the debris of houses, trees, and automobiles. At this point I awoke in a panicked state. I occasionally have these really vivid "falling" dreams that result in me sitting up with an adrenaline shot and gaining consciousness.
I think the weather element of the dream resulted from the hellish storms that lasted most of the night. I felt strange for half an hour after waking up.
