Apr. 30th, 2010 12:05 pmI'm building a new DHCP server on Redhat and then a new Honeypot/Labrea-Tarpit server on either Redhat or BSD. Our DHCP server currently resides on a Sun/Solaris box that is at end of life, so I'm giving it another decade in service on an HP blade (one can hope...HP is the harbor-freight of professional grade hardware). Exciting shit.
I read an article about comic book movies and weird songs (http://io9.com/5525035/the-top-10-weirdest-songs-from-superhero-movies) and it reminded me of a bygone era when many major movie releases had a soundtrack tie-in with heavily marketed music videos and songs that were immediately identifiable to the film. I hear "Kiss from a Rose" by Seal and I think of Batman Forever, I hear "Hold Me Thrill Me Kiss Me Kill Me" by U2 and I think of Batman Forever, I think of Batman (1989) and I think of Prince's Batdance, and I think of Ghostbusters 2 and goddammit, Bobby Brown is rapping that they're too hot to handle, too cold to hold, they're called Ghostbusters and they're in control. I also obviously think of Batman too often. I'll work on that. Will Smith rapped about the Men in Black twice, as well the Wild Wild West and likely another ridiculous piece of shit he took top billing in. ZZTop and Huey Lewis went Back to the Future, Cindy Lauper helped the Goonies read their treasure map, and Madonna asked, "Who's that girl?" Where did the cultural phenomenon go? Did MTV's programming fuck-all kill it? Is it better off dead? (than to live without you.)
